As everybody else I had my doubts about this movie, since the original was a fucking masterpiece. But the new title, 
cast and director looked promising. And they kept their promise. This is not a remake of the original but an entirely new movie that builds its own world in the swampy and decayed New Orleans. Drugs, extortion, murders are pretty usual in this environment. Terence McDonagh is a detective with a few problems that he can`t seem to shake, and those problems involve drugs, gambling and all the other fun stuff. After the vicious drug related murder of an entire family story for him will slowly start to get complicated, and create a total chaos in his life. Nicolas Cage was usually great, a perfect man for the roll with the support from beautiful Eva Mendes. And we cannot forget MILF Jennifer Coolidge forever remembered as Stiflers mom. Herzog`s style of directing really brought up all the filth in everything from humans to objects. Although it does not follow the usual storyline it ends with a certain question mark, making us wonder what are the next adventures of this interesting detective.
