Another great movie from Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Hellboy),
it is interesting to see these type of movies coming from Mexico. Story is very interesting, in 1535 an alchemist built a device(it looks like a golden spider) that can enable its possessor to be immortal. As always there is a catch to this great gift, and if you see the movie you will find out what is it.
Centuries later, the statue of an archangel ends up in a old antique shop, and the owner accidentally finds the device sought by an dying millionaire. Will he succumb to the temptation and survive or will he refuse the gift? Great directing and acting, only Ron Perlman overacted a bit, but since the director loves him so much i guess we can forgive him. Enjoy this great movie.

Fun Facts: Guillermo del Toro met with Universal in late ’93, where they told him they wanted to buy the rights to this film so they could remake it. del Toro’s response was “Who wants to see Jack Lemmon lick blood off a bathroom floor?”.
