Jackie Chan and ancient wars? At first glance Little Big Soldier might seem to be another movie with thousands of archers, fighters, and great battles with amazing special effects, but this is not the case here. This is actually a road trip movie where Jackie plays an elderly soldier who captures enemy general and plans to turn him over for a reward. But as usually a trip to the headquarters will be filled with dangers and funny situations. I especially liked the tricks that Jackie uses to convince the enemy that he is wounded or dead, it is a nice touch from the old master.
Made on a 25-million-dollar budget, Little Big Soldier is a realization of a production that has been in development hell for more than twenty years. Finally, the stars alligned and they began shooting this movie based on a script that was conceived by Jackie Chan so many years ago. It depicts an uncomfortable period in Chinese history with never-ending wars, millions of dead and ruined economies. Warring States period, as it is called, lasted for 200 years, between 403 BC and 221 BC. This difficult atmosphere was defused with change of focus, from big to little picture. Little big soldier, to be more precise. So if you are looking for a really good flick with this kind of vibe check this one out, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy.
