What a great movie, and I still can’t believe that I thought that this is going to be another lame-ass action flick, ready to milk the drugged and drowsy audiences across the world that just want muscles and action. And what perfect choices for the lead roles, Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock possesses a certain charm and charisma and can actually act unlike other stiffs that are used purely as muscle in movies. He is capable of showing emotions, well, let’s not get wild with this, basic emotions, and that combined with his appearance make a pretty damn good combination. And on the other hand we have Billy Bob Thornton, with his unquestionable acting skills and appearance a drug addict and a drunk. Personally, I do not like him that much, but I respect him. Anyone who fucked Angie and pulled out on time deserves my respect (ahh Brad, Jolie-whipped into crap).

Now, the plot is pretty much standard issue revenge story. After robbing a bank, a group of criminals (Rock among them) is jacked by another group of criminals. Everyone died except The Rock (that’s because he is The Rock), who just finished serving his debt to the society in prison. I mean the movie starts like a classic, but then, ten minutes in, when Rock finds his first target, it takes the turn to a more underground flick, but what I most enjoyed is that it has a certain visceral look and feel. I did not like the artsy-fartsy hitman with a beautiful wife and all the other overcoming crap, but what you gonna do. And one more thing about this movie, it references L.A. C.R.A.S.H. unit, one of my favorite units that served as inspiration for many movies and series that I love (The Shield, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Training Day plus the new one that is going to come out Rampart), check out the link below, and the Rampart incident. Enjoy.
