If you are looking for some not too dumb relaxing comedy, you have found it. Of course, the target audience are Star Wars fans, but us others can enjoy this flick too. Although I found that too many clichés describing the fans were used, it is still cute to see them. Immediately we must compare this movie to Galaxy Quest, a movie that shares the general outline of Fanboys: it’s a comedy referencing certain TV series or a movie. Although I’m a trekkie, there can be no doubt about the quality of these movies, Galaxy Quest is by far the winner. It features a creative and coherent storyline laced with intelligent jokes. Fanboys uses a more low-brow humor and gags that could have easily landed in some teenage comedies. The problem is the highly volatile mixture of teen, road and fan movies that needs to be perfectly brewed in order to be edible.

Four childhood friends decide to go Skywalker Ranch and get the next movie in franchise before all the others. As always this will be a road trip filled with events that will further strengthen their mutual relationships and lead them to some unusual experiences. It’s like a road trip with kids, lol. Anyways it is pretty relaxing with some nice cast members, including one Jack Black lookalike. Enjoy.

Director: Kyle Newman

Cast: Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, Kristen Bell

Fun Stuff: The “Fanboys” theatrical release poster (the unidentified male in a knit shirt looking toward his right shoulder in a Darth Vader helmet, against an orange sunburst background) is a spoof of the theatrical release poster for The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) (with ‘Steve Carrell’ appearing in similar clothing and posing against a similar background), the idea being conveyed that fan boys are the quintessential “40-year-old virgins”.
