The Grand Seduction 2013 Movie Scene Taylor Kitsch as Dr. Paul Lewis arriving in Tickle Head with Brendan Gleeson as Murray French

The Grand Seduction [2013]

As you might have guessed from the title of this heartwarming comedy, The Grand Seduction is here to seduce you. Seduce you with its likable characters, beautiful nature, and slow but steady pacing. At this point, Brendan Gleeson could totally brand his name as a sign of good movies. I’m serious, I didn’t even read through the synopsis or anything, as soon as I saw him starring, I hit download. Did I say download, I meant I went to the local movie store and bought the DVD or Blu-ray. This is actually a remake of a French-Canadian movie Seducing Doctor Lewis surprisingly well done. To finish off the trifecta of similar movies I should also mention Waking Ned Devine.

The Grand Seduction is one of those movies that middle-aged and older people enjoy immensely. I can totally see it re-running a thousand times on local televisions all across the world. But everyone can enjoy a movie this good. The jokes are appropriate and reminiscent of past, better days, without much technology and the setting is just beautiful. The thing that really got me laughing were the borderline jokes that include drugs, sex, and other fun stuff. I giggled like a little girl. Additionally, this is a perfect movie for fucking, meaning that it’s got that old-school atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and much more.

Murray French is all about tradition, he remembers the olden days and just wants that time to come back to the dying Newfoundland fishing village where he has lived all his life. Forgotten by almost everyone, lost in depression and the new world, inhabitants of this village are practically just waiting to die. Murray is about to change that when he decides to do everything in his power to persuade a big corporation to build a factory in their village. In order to do so, he will need the help of all of them…

Gleesons’ partner Taylor Kitsch is another reason that you should check out The Grand Seduction. He’s one of those full package actors that comes with a great body and great acting skills. Also, make sure to check out his performances in Lone Survivor, Only the Brave, and glorious True Detective. When you have a bunch of characters this adorable, everything they do comes off as cute and funny. I don’t want to bother you too much with the details as I don’t want to spoil anything. All you have to do is find an appropriate time and check out this feel-good gem.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t recommend you another movie featuring a doctor coming to a small community. Greek masterpiece of summer escapism and midlife crisis titled Suntan, it fucking glorious and more serious than this one.
