We are continuing with the fantasy flicks of the 80s with this little gem. Older of you may remember the cartoon Masters of The Universe that tells the story of He-Man and his archenemy Skeletor, played by Frank Langella. In the movie He-Man is played by Dolph Lundgren, and that just adds to “quality” of the movie. Although the series and the movie are connected, the movie is based purely on the Mattel characters. Everything surrounding this movie is quite funny. This was Frank Langella favourite role and it was the worst job ever for Dolph who eventually agreed to the sequel thirty years later, although he initially refused it. He-Man also could not kill a human being since this would damage the sales of the toy, so all the Skeletor’s minions were made robotic to get around this clause.

Skeletor has taken control over the legendary castle Grayskull, and with the possession of the cosmic key. Using a copy of this key He-Man and the gang wind up on Earth, where they will have to be resourceful and find a way to get back to Eternia. This is a pure eighties sword and sorcery movie, so expect funny sets, epic fights, hilarious one liners and great action. Sometimes those things were not intentional but as I always say: eighties work in mysterious ways. Clearly there’s a line here between those who have seen Masters of the Universe when they were younger and audiences who have no idea who He-Man is. Wherever you draw it, it will inevitable intersect with the words fun and ride. Enjoy…
