You know that mixture of horror and comedy that worked so well in the eighties; well here is proof that you can still do the same thing after ten years… Featuring very interesting cast, with some really awesome actors like Brendan Gleeson, Oliver Platt and Betty White, Lake Placid is now a cult movie. Creature effects are great, since the movie was made in 1999, two years after the CGI was totally believable and replaced the graphic style of the eighties. Script was really funny, cleverly written and building on the jabs and jokes between diverse characters and situations. This being said, movie has more of a comedy feel than horror, although there are some gory scenes (I guess with giant crocodile you are bound to have them).

After a horrible attack of an unknown creature (unknown my ass) at a quiet and peaceful lake in Maine, a paleontologist (Bridget wanna fuck Fonda) is called to examine the tooth that remained after the attack. This particular paleontologist is quite neat and grossed out by bugs and other living things (not to mention sarcastic). She will team up with rich and eccentric scientist (Platt) and local sheriff in an effort to make scenes what lurks beneath the murky water of lake Placid (although the lake is not called that). What they will discover, well, it is not going to surprise you (since there is a pic of a giant croc on the cover). How the hell did the giant crocodile ended up in Maine, and how did it grow so big is a mystery, but the priority is its capture. Enjoy.

Director: Steve Miner

Cast: Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Betty White, David Lewis

Fun Facts: Betty White’s character is told that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) would be interested to learn of her alleged mistreatment of her cows. In reality, Betty White is a major on-air spokesperson for PETA. And one more, the biggest crocodile is just 2 metars shorter than the croc
